What the live counter reports
The tool counts words as groups of non-whitespace characters. It also shows total JavaScript string length, characters after removing whitespace, sentence-ending punctuation groups, non-empty newline-separated paragraphs and estimated reading time. Every figure updates while you edit, so no calculate button is required.
How the reading-time estimate works
Reading time is the word count divided by 200 and rounded up to the next whole minute, with a minimum display of one minute. It is a planning estimate, not a measurement of a particular reader. Technical vocabulary, tables, unfamiliar names and the reader's language can make actual reading time longer or shorter.
How to check a product or business draft
Paste the exact draft, review its word and character totals, then inspect the text itself. Use sentence and paragraph figures to spot a dense block, but do not treat them as a grammar score. Edit for clarity and verify product facts before making the final count.
How sentence and paragraph counts can differ
The sentence estimate looks for groups of full stops, exclamation marks or question marks followed by whitespace or the end of the text. Abbreviations and unusual punctuation can change the result. Paragraphs are counted from non-empty blocks separated by line breaks, so visual formatting in another editor may not map exactly.

Practical example
For “Red cotton kurta. Machine wash.” the runtime finds 5 non-whitespace word groups and 2 sentence-ending punctuation groups. It displays a 1-minute reading estimate because the rounded result cannot be lower than one minute.
Limitations
- The word rule is whitespace-based and does not perform linguistic tokenisation.
- Sentence count is a punctuation estimate and can be affected by abbreviations or unconventional writing.
- Paragraphs depend on line breaks in the pasted text.
- Counts do not measure accuracy, readability, originality or compliance.
