What this calculator does

Enter an amount and GST rate, then choose whether GST is already included or must be added. The result shows taxable value, total GST and invoice total. For the selected supply type, the page displays the tax as either IGST or equal CGST and SGST components.

Inclusive and exclusive arithmetic

For an exclusive amount, GST is the taxable value multiplied by the entered rate. For an inclusive amount, the tool divides the entered total by one plus the rate to estimate the taxable value, then treats the difference as GST. Displayed currency figures are rounded to two decimal places.

Choose the supply type carefully

The selector does not determine the legal nature of a supply. CBIC guidance distinguishes intra-State supplies, generally involving CGST plus SGST, from inter-State supplies involving IGST; supplier location, place of supply and statutory exceptions affect that determination. Confirm the correct rate and treatment independently before issuing an invoice or filing a return.

Use this as an arithmetic check

The page is useful for checking a draft price breakdown after the user has already established the applicable GST rate and supply treatment. It does not classify goods or services, validate an invoice, determine place of supply, prepare a return or provide tax advice.

Worked example

Practical example

If ₹1,180 already includes GST at 18%, the estimated taxable value is ₹1,000 and total GST is ₹180. Selecting intra-State displays CGST ₹90 and SGST ₹90; selecting inter-State displays IGST ₹180. The example demonstrates the arithmetic, not whether 18% or either supply type applies to a real transaction.

Limitations

  • The user must determine the correct GST rate and supply treatment.
  • The selector does not determine place of supply or legal classification.
  • Invoice and statutory rounding rules may produce a different final figure.
  • The output is not tax, filing or accounting advice.

Privacy and file processing

The entered amount, rate and selections are calculated in the browser tab. Review the Tool Privacy & File Processing Policy before using sensitive transaction data. Read the full policy.

FAQs

Does the calculator choose the correct GST rate?
No. Enter a rate only after checking the applicable classification and current authoritative guidance.
How is GST removed from an inclusive amount?
The tool divides the entered total by one plus the entered rate, then treats the difference as GST.
Why are CGST and SGST shown equally?
For the selected intra-State arithmetic mode, the runtime divides total GST into two equal displayed components.
Can this validate an invoice or GST return?
No. It performs arithmetic only and does not validate classification, place of supply, invoice rules or filings.
