๐Ÿ“ฆ Shipping & RTO Impact Calculator

Estimate total return and RTO impact for an entered order batch using your assumptions.

Seller workflowLast reviewed: September 26, 2026

What the total includes

The current calculator estimates a total impact for the entered order count. It includes forward shipping and packaging for all orders, reverse shipping for estimated customer returns plus RTO orders, and unrecovered product cost for those returned/RTO units. It does not calculate revenue, profit or an average impact per order.

How return and RTO quantities are estimated

Estimated customer returns equal the order count multiplied by the customer-return rate. Estimated RTO orders equal the order count multiplied by the RTO rate. These displayed estimates can include a decimal because the percentages model an expected scenario rather than an observed count of individual parcels.

How the cost estimate is built

Shipping impact equals forward shipping for every order plus reverse shipping for estimated returned and RTO units. Packaging is added for every order. Inventory impact equals estimated returned/RTO units multiplied by product cost minus entered recovery, with negative unrecovered cost prevented. The three components form the displayed total.

Review assumptions before using the result

Carrier contracts, marketplace adjustments, damaged inventory, reshipping, taxes and realised recovery may differ from this scenario. Use actual historical rates where available, keep the calculation date and assumptions with the result, and reconcile important decisions with settlement and logistics records.

Worked example

Practical example

For 100 orders, product cost โ‚น400, forward shipping โ‚น50, reverse shipping โ‚น70, customer returns 5%, RTO 10%, packaging โ‚น20 and recovery โ‚น100 per returned unit, the tool estimates 5 returns and 10 RTO orders. Shipping impact is โ‚น6,050, packaging is โ‚น2,000, inventory impact is โ‚น4,500 and total estimated impact is โ‚น12,550.

Limitations

  • The result is a batch total, not an average per order or a profit figure.
  • Percentages estimate expected units and can produce fractional counts.
  • Actual carrier, recovery, damage, tax and marketplace adjustments may differ.
  • The calculation is not a settlement reconciliation or financial guarantee.

Privacy and file processing

The working order and cost assumptions are calculated in the browser tab. Avoid entering confidential operating data unless browser processing is appropriate, and review the Tool Privacy & File Processing Policy. Read the full policy.

FAQs

Is the result an average loss per order?
No. It is the total estimated impact for the full order count entered.
Why can estimated returns include a decimal?
The runtime multiplies order count by the entered percentage, so it represents an expected scenario rather than a completed parcel count.
What does recovery mean here?
It is the seller-entered amount assumed to be recovered from a returned/RTO unit and is deducted from product cost, not below zero.
Does this match a carrier or marketplace settlement?
Not necessarily. Compare the estimate with actual carrier bills, settlement adjustments and inventory outcomes.
